Fall Spiced Pumpkin Jello Shots

Jello shots are the new ice cream. Last year I couldn't stop making delectable frozen treats, but now it's all flavored gelatin-ized liquor and I see nothing wrong with this.

These pumpkin jello shots took a few turns before the final recipe but my motto is to eat your mistakes- so it wasn't all bad. Super spicy with a hearty fall undertow, these are not for the weak at heart; topping with whipped cream is essential to get the full pumpkin pie jello shot effect.

If you want to really kick the content up on these fall jello shots, run out today and get this alcoholic whipped cream (called Cream). We were shocked at how strong this is! It's an odd product, completely shelf stable. After trying this on the jello shots, our friend ran out and bought a can for a torrid weekend rendezvous...word is that it was well received but the hotel staff may begin to ban it!

Lame Jello shot flavors blow, get on the fat and happy bandwagon and make it interesting.

Fall Spiced Pumpkin Jello Shots

1 cup chai tea
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tbls white sugar
1 package of unflavored gelatin
1/4 cup chilled vanilla vodka
1/4 cup chilled vodka
Spice mixture (recipe below)

In a sauce pan, heat 1/2 cup chai tea and the brown and white sugar until the sugar is melted.  Add in 1/2 tbls of the spice mixture. Remove from heat and sprinkle the gelatin over the tea, whisking to combine.  Let sit for 10 minutes.

Add the vodka and the remaining tea, stir to combine.  Strain the mixture to capture any undissolved gelatin, then pour into small jello shot cups.

Refigerate for at least 3 hours. Top with whipped cream before serving.

Spice Mixture
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 ground clove
1/2 tsp ground allspice
pinch of ground nutmeg
1/8 tsp ground ginger

Mix the above ingredients in a bowl and set aside until ready to use.

  1. Hi Monique,

As a tribute to all the years that you hosted the White Elephant party, we decided to make your fall spiced jello shots to bring to the party. Needless to say, it will be a while before I'm up to your cooking standards. I had enough ingredients to make two double batches, but I burned the first pot of chai. Then I strained the second batch through too fine of a strainer, and it removed most of the spices. I tried adding some more spices back in, but I think I added too much cinnamon. They wound up tasting like Red Hots jello shots. Oh well, as you say, you eat your mistakes. With whipped cream on top, they were still yummy. We told people they were Cinnamon and Spice shots, inspired by your recipe!

  2. I just made these with prepared chai tea from a box and was able to omit the spice mix. Topped with cool whip. Yummy

  3. Could you please clarify? Ingredients has 1 cup Chai tea, Directions has 1/2 cup Chai tea...Also, you don't use all of the Spice mixture?? Since you use 1/2 TBS, what did you do with rest? I plan to use boxed Chai tea so not even sure I need the spice mixture? This recipe sounds awesome! Just want to make sure I do it correctly for Halloween party! =)

  4. HI, sorry about that. I updated the recipe- add the remaining tea in with the vodka. For the spices, there won't be much left over. You could make just slightly less if desired. I sprinkled the rest of the spice on pancakes. Or it would be great in home made whipped cream if you are not using the boozy cream.

  5. I hate to say it but I followed these instructions to a T and it came out awful. It tasted gross.. I would not serve these to anyone. The spice mixture just settles at the bottom of the jello cup and is not very pleasant looking or tasting.

  6. So sorry these didn't work out for you; it's been a while since I made them but they were a hit at the time. I'll test them out again and see if any revisions are needed. Adding a touch of whipped topping completes them.

  7. What kind of chai tea should be used? The kind that can be used by seaping tea bag, the liquid mix kind, or the powder mix? Thanks

  8. Hi- I brewed a loose leaf chai tea. You could also steep a black tea. Some of the spices do settle to the bottom (as noted by another comment), so I found that scooping the mixed liquid out of a the bowl and into the cups, leaving the very bottom sludge out of the final shots, alleviates that problem. Good luck!
